Welcome to the Gippsland Athletics Club Website

Gippsland Athletics club was founded in 1955. Our aim is to promote, encourage and improve athletic competition in the Gippsland Region. We offer a relaxed and friendly environment for individuals and families and encourage participation from all ages and abilities. Athletes compete in age groups from U14 up to Masters. Regular track and field competition is held from October to March on Tuesday evenings starting at 6.00pm at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Newborough.

Simon Van Baalen - Australian Record Holder.

Gippsland Athletics Club Member Simon Van Baalen recently broke an Australian Masters Athletics record in the M45-49 100lb weight throw.

Competing with the Victorian Masters Athletics throwers group in Murrumbeena on 20/1/2020 Simon managed a throw of 4.53m, beating the previous record of 4.38m which was held by Grant Edwards of ACT.

This throw improved Simon's previously held Victorian Masters record of 4.26m.

Simon seems to have a knack for the weighted throws, also having broken the Victorian M45-49 weight throws pentathlon record where an athlete throws a series of 5 weights varying from 20lb to 56lb.

Simon has bettered the record on three occasions, most recently on the 23rd of February, beating his previous mark by nearly 200 points, bringing the record to 3717 points.

The Victorian Masters Athletics throwers group compete and train on Sundays regularly throughout the year (normally) with age categories ranging from 30+ to 100+.

Gippsland Athletics Pentathlon

The Gippsland Athletics Pentathlon Championship was run on Tuesday 25th of February 2020.

The Pentathlon results have now been posted, congratulations to all of the place getters.

Special mentions to South Coast Athletics member - Miles Wrigley , who in the U/16 Mens broke a long standing pentathlon record (1994) with an exceptional overall performance.

And also to Gippsland Athletics member Jude Fernando, who in his first season with the club managed to edge out the ever competitive Ben Cruickshank in Masters Mens, in what was easily the largest field of the evening.

We had a great turn out for the event, with a number of competitors from South Coast Athletics and Traralgon Harriers making the effort to come and compete.

Gippsland Athletics would like to thank all competitors for helping make the Pentathlon a more interesting event.
