The Victorian Country Championships are done and dusted for 2025. Bendigo's Lar Birpa Athletics Complex, was a good hunting ground for Gippsland Athletes, with the team bringing home a big bag of medals, roughly 30 in total.
We've got 14 Full AV members registered that could have competed and we had an astounding 13 of those present. That is an unbelievable increase from recent years. The feel at the track was great, there was nearly always a Gippsland Athlete competing and if there wasn't, some of our regular Traralgon Harriers and South Gippland Bass visitors were in action.
Every athlete competed to their highest level and gave it their all, with some missing out on medals, some getting their first age group medals and others adding more bling to the collection.
Stand out performances over the weekend;
Brooklyn Wyatt 3 gold, 1 silver; Taj Makepeace 2 gold 1 silver; Lewis Yip 2 gold, Stuart Dalton 1 gold, 1 silver 2 bronze; Simon Van Baalen 3 gold, 3 bronze medals.
I (Simon VB) personally want to thank my fellow club members for making the weekend a fantastic experience and for stepping up to help cover the club's required duties as helpers over the weekend. Your willingness to put your hands up help out made things much easier to organise and manage.
I look forward to the results from upcoming state championships that club members will be involved in.
